The Rookie

The Rookie follows John Nolan, a 40-year-old man who moves from his comfortable, small-town life to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of being a police officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. He must navigate the dangerous, humorous, and unpredictable world of a "young" cop, determined to make his second shot at life count.

But there's one more reason I love The Rookie. It reminds me what cops signed themselves up for when they entered the profession. Which is a helluva lot. I mean, who wants to walk up to a stranger's car in the middle of the night? Or knock on a doors from which screams have been reported. If somebody is being scary, it is their job to intervene. That's ask of someone...especially for what we pay them. It also requires a special kind of person to be able to do that job in a professional manner, someone wh ok can think clearly in an emergency, and who doesn't deteriorate over time from a constant barrage of stress.

That said, I love The Rookie show. Possibly one of my favorite, and I watch every episode. For the most part, my reasons for liking it are typical. The characters are great and we'll acted. The Rookie plots are never boring. And drama, action and banter are alternated and controled to a perfect tempo.

I must admit, The Rookie videos and statistics have really jaded my attitude towards law enforcement these last few years. You can only see someone get shot with their back turned so many times before you start asking what is going on.

I am so glad we are getting a second season of The Rookie show. It is my new favorite cop show with its perfect blend of drama, excitement and moments of humor. The cast is brilliant and there are so many complex and wonderful characters to root for. I was worried it wouldn't play well with its goofy premise but Nathan Fillion is convincing as a guy trying to radically reboot his life while making a difference in the lives of others. I hope the terrific writing and directing continues for at least a few more The Rookie seasons as I am loving watching all these characters evolve.
